Should people with a peanut allergy be considered with peanut butter? Recently, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has made an announcement advising people with peanut allergies to avoid eating food that may have mustard in it, as it might be contaminated with peanuts. This isn’t actually because mustard contains something that would set off a peanut allergy, but instead, the mustard has been contaminated with peanuts.
This contamination has been traced back to GT Agro Industries, which is an ingredient producer company located in India. Due to the great dangers of a peanut allergy, temporary caution must be taken to ensure people with peanut allergies are not accidentally exposed to peanuts in these products that you would not typically expect to find peanuts. As of right now labels are required to say “may contain” if there are any chances there is something that will set off a peanut allergy, even if there aren’t peanuts in the product.
This has caused people to need to temporarily avoid or be more cautious of certain foods if they have a peanut allergy. This includes several dips, sandwiches, and many other things. The most popular of these products would be the Domino dips, SPAR sandwich fillers and salads, and Harvester BBQ sauce.
